Is your cat urinating indoors on furniture? This can be extremely stressful, I know because it happened to me for years. I know better now though and have trained my cats well to urinate in the right place and away from furniture. Here are some of my top tips to stop your cat urinating indoors on furniture.
Make sure the litter box is kept fresh and clean - Think as if you were the cat. They have the choice of the clean furniture where the urine is cleaned up every single time or they can choose the litter box which is not cleaned regularly enough. Which do they pick? They will always pick the cleanest option because like us they want to remain disease free. Keep it cleaned and refreshed every day for maximum benefits.
Make the furniture less appealing - Now you have made it so the cat will prefer to use the litter box, you have to make it so the cat stays away from the furniture for maximum effect. A smell that humans can stand is white vinegar but cats hate this smell. Try applying this a little to your furniture to make sure it does not stain it and if so put some in the area where the cat urinates and it will warn it off for a while.
Aluminum Foil - Apparently cats hate the sound of aluminium foil when you walk on it. It surprised me too. For a while, why not cover the area where the cat stands whilst urinating with foil on the floor. This way they will avoid it and if combined with the vinegar idea above they will most likely stay away for some time.
Don't shout at your cat - You are like a predator to your cat. You have to treat it well because if you scold it, it will simply will be scared of you, not the punishments. Reward your animal at first whenever it uses the litter tray by giving it a treat you know it likes.
"I bet you're searching the internet looking for the best methods to train your cat for free and I totally understand that. I was in your position and all the information seemed too much and information conflicted and it was pretty annoying at the time.
Finally I just thought I'd buy something and apply it regularly and it worked way beyond my expectations. Now I have 3 cats who I would not have recognised 3 months ago.
