How to Get Rid of a Kangaroo Pouch (Cats)

Like humans, cats have the ability to be lazy and fat. As a result, cats like humans, will gain weight and be sluggish. Fat cats, obviously need exercise and a better diet to loose the pounds.

Some cats however, especially if they have recently been spayed, have a loose piece of skin, or kangaroo pouch that hangs around their back legs and runs to their abdomen. With the same approach taken as a fat cat, the pouch should reduce and in some cases disappear in time.

The importance of checking the pouch.

It is essential however, that the owner check that the pouch is loose skin, rather than just a sign the cat has a spare tyre. More importantly, it is essential to check the pouch to for lumps or nodules. If one should be found, then the cat needs to see a veterinarian straight away. This is a sign that the cat may have contracted cancer, and action needs to be taken.

The importance of observing the cat cannot be overstated. If the cat is not being overfed, but is still sluggish or sleepy, then it is advisable a visit to the vet is in order. It is better to be safe than sorry. Like humans, a cat stand a better chance of surviving cancer and other illnesses if it is caught early.

Exercise, diet, and well being.

If a cat is eating properly, getting plenty of exercise, and is loved, then the cat's sense of well being is as it should be. A healthy cat is a happy cat, so it is important a cat is fed good food that includes a mixture of wet and dry feed, and plenty of fresh water. Though it may seem that the cat is not keen on fresh water, a few drops could be all they need, as they do receive water from wet feed.

The idea of cat food is that it mimics the food they would be eating in the wild. Therefore it is important that a cat's food is well balanced.

The cat pouch is sometimes referred to as a spay away, as it often appears after the animal has undergone the operation. It is not exclusive to being spayed however, and sometimes can be naturally forming. If a cat is spayed, their chances of contracting some cancers are reduced, and in some cases nullified.

Providing the cat is loved, exercised, and fed a good balanced diet that does not overfeed the animal, then the pouch should reduce if not entirely vanish. Over time, the pouch may increase, so it is important to observe the cat for signs of illness, and to adjust diet and exercise accordingly. Though this may seem a little harsh, this is when a cat is at his or her happiest, and they feel the best. If a node or lump is felt anywhere on the cat, especially on the pouch, then the cat should be taken to a vet immediately.
