When you make your cats food, you control the quality of the food. It would be extremely difficult for most of us to make all our cats meals, but knowing how to make a few healthy treats that we can give to our cats guilt free cannot hurt.
The following recipes are for three healthy treats
1. Cat Cookies
1-cup whole-wheat flour
1-teaspoon catnip
1/3 cup milk
1/3 cup powdered milk
2 tablespoons butter or vegetable oil
1/4-cup soy flour
1 egg
2 tablespoons wheat germ
1 tablespoon unsulfured molasses
Preheat oven 350 degrees
Mix dry ingredients together. Add molasses, egg, oil and milk. Roll out flat onto oiled cookie sheet and cut into small cat size bite pieces. Bake for 20 minutes. Let cool. Store in airtight container.
Many cats love dairy products but we know that too much dairy is not good for cats. In this recipe, they can ease their dairy craving in a much healthier way. Many but not all cats love this meatless treat.
2. Cheese Treats
1/2 cup grated cheese
2 tablespoons plain yogurt or sour cream
Pinch of oatmeal
2 tablespoons margarine or low fat spread
Mash all ingredients together adding them in order as indicated above. No cooking required. Serve cold. 1 serving
This is a great treat for your cat that is good tasting and good for them.
3. Cat Crackers
6 oz. of tuna undrained
1-cup cornmeal
1-cup flour
1/3 water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Measure all ingredients in a bowl and mix with your hands. Roll out 1/4 -inch thickness and cut into treat size pieces. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown. Let Cool. Keep stored in airtight container.
